COACHES

Brian Gustafson enters his 27th year of coaching basketball this fall. Having spent 17 seasons coaching high school basketball in Woodland Park, CO and 8 seasons at NCAA Division III, Colorado College,‘Coach Gus’ is in his 2nd season coaching the Timnath Cubs Varsity Basketball Team! Currently a School Finance Officer, he has coached high school boys golf, taught high school Business Education and served as a high school Director of Athletics & Activities as well. Coach Gus was a student-athlete at the NAIA level and earned
degrees at Colorado State University and the University of Northern Colorado.

Philosophically, Coach believes that high school athletics and activities provide the richest environment for personal development and experiential learning that today’s youth can experience. Far more important than the final score are the multitude of lessons learned in pursuit of victory. Additionally, he is excited to connect with the TMHS community and build a basketball program around Timnath’s values of work ethic, sportsmanship and competing with character.

Brian’s wife Lynette is a teacher at TMHS. They enjoy hiking, the arts, traveling, college sports, and of course, coaching (volleyball and basketball). Additionally, Coach’s favorite pastime is playing golf.

Justin Mitchell is a northern Colorado native, born and raised in Loveland. Growing up, he spent countless hours in the gym with his dad as he coached the Berthoud High School Girls Basketball team from the ‘80’s through the early ‘90’s. In high school, Justin was All-State in football and All-Conference & All Area Player of the Year in basketball at Thompson Valley High School. He continued his love of basketball in college at South Dakota School of Mines where he was fortunate to play all 4-years on scholarship, be a 2-year starter & captain, receive a Civil-Structural Engineering degree, and meet his wife Lacey. Justin has spent the last 20 years working as an engineer for a local steel construction company where he has worked on many fun projects like the new CSU Football Stadium, Colorado Rapids Stadium, and Atlanta Braves Stadium. Justin and Lacey have two beautiful daughters Marley (15) and Blakely (10) who enjoy life together through dance, basketball, and summertime camping and boating. Justin has been a part of numerous youth sports in Berthoud, Loveland, and Windsor. He is grateful for the opportunity to share his love of the game and help demonstrate the life lessons that team sports and basketball have given to him over the years. Go Cubs!!!

Reyes Sarmiento played high school basketball at Sierra Grande High School in Blanca, Colorado. Came to CSU to study Engineering and graduated in 1995. Came back to coaching basketball about 9 years ago starting at the 4th-5th grade club level and working my way up to Middle School coaching 2 years CLP, then two years at Fort Collins High School, continuing with another year at Poudre High School, and now I am here at Timnath Middle High School. My wife and I enjoy spending time with our kids and attending any and all sports they are active in. At the moment, we have three kids in college, a high school junior and a 6th grader. I look forward to teaching the game of basketball and establishing a respected program where parents want to bring their kids.
